Description:Safety and Operational Intersection Improvements
The project consists of design of safety and operational improvements by adding right turn and left turn lanes, increasing stacking lengths of the existing turn lanes, adding/modifying medians, and traffic signal upgrades at Sandy Plains Road and East Piedmont Road. The project will reduce delays and congestion from each approach and improve the operation of the intersection. The project will be split in two phases.
Phase 1 – Sandy Plains Road / East Piedmont Road Intersection: This includes detailed traffic engineering, modifications of the existing traffic signals, drainage system, utility coordination, signage and striping, preparation of database, construction documents and plans to complete detailed engineering design of the intersection project for construction.
Phase 2 – Engineering conceptual study plan development for ultimate traffic improvement in the "East Piedmont/ Sandy Plans Road Corridor." This area is eligible for Redevelopment Overlay District Zoning (a special designation) approved by Cobb County Board of Commissioners.
